All Saints Sunday
(November 4th)
All Saints Sunday is a celebration of
those who have lived and died in the faith and is traditionally observed
the first Sunday in November. This means Sunday, November 2nd will be an
opportunity for Zion Church to remember and give thanks to God for
deceased family members and friends. While all the faithful departed
will be honored, particular attention will be given to those who died
during the past year through the lighting of a candle and a moment of
prayerful silence. This year we will be honoring Zula Zittrauer White,
Linda Kay Reinwald, Yolanda Elizabeth Miller, and Rebecca Lynn Kessler.
Thanksgiving Program November 23, 2008
Zion Lutheran Church will host a Thanksgiving Program
starting at 6:30 p.m. on November 23rd. We have invited the
following Churches to join us in the Thanksgiving Service:

Abundant Life
The offering will go to Manna House and can be either
financial or canned good contributions. A fellowship reception with
finger foods will follow the service. Please mark your calendar for
November 23rd and come help us with a program thanking God
for all He does for us.

Call Committee Report
By Charlie Heidt
The Call Committee received a candidate name from
Pastor Darrel Peterson from the Synod Office. The Call Committee agreed
to interview the candidate on October 9th. After meeting with
the candidate, it was a mutual agreement that we were not a good match
for each other. We have contacted Pastor Peterson to inform him of our
decision. We have requested additional names of candidates available for
call. We are now waiting on names of candidates from Pastor Peterson.
We ask for the prayer of the congregation for the
call committee and the Synod personnel as we continue to search for the
right pastor to come and serve Zion Church. Your patience and
understanding are greatly appreciated by the call committee.

everyone. All those attending are asked to bring a canned good item for

assisting with games, baking goodies for the treat walk or making a
monetary donation, please contact any member of the group. New Horizon’s
group members are Andy & Cheryl Dasher, Richard & Karen Hall, Melissa
Osteen and Dana & Dana Lee Smith. Please help us to make this year’s

Senior Citizens
Both Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie and Sergeant Ramsey Mannon
from the Effingham Sheriff’s department were at the Senior Citizens meeting
in October. The Sheriff talked about several new programs they are
implementing getting citizens in the community involved. Sergeant Mannon
talked about watching out for scams and fraud. He cautioned everyone to be
careful in handling their credit/debit cards and in using ATM machines. Also
beware of door-to-door salesmen from out of county and call the Sheriff’s
office if they don’t have papers showing the Sheriff’s office has checked
them out.
Thank you to Charlie &
Melinda Heidt for being in charge of the delicious meal that 32 folks
enjoyed and to all those who helped in the kitchen and/or brought food to
share.
At our next meeting on Wednesday, November 19th,
at 11:30 a.m., Chaplain Andy Krey will be talking about his ministry at the
Savannah ports. A Thanksgiving meal will be provided. So come on out for a
good meal, informative program, and great fellowship. –Bring a friend to
enjoy the get-together with you.

Children’s Choir
Submitted by Melinda Heidt
We are enjoying working with your child at
choir. They are doing great and are attending practices and singing every
Sunday at Worship Services.
Now we are beginning to practice our
Christmas Musical "The Mystery in the Manager".
Please help your child to learn their
songs and speaking parts at home as we have only 6 weeks to practice. They
will need to bring their books for each Wednesday and weekend practices.
Thanks for your help and your prayers as we continue serving the Lord with
our children’s message through their singing.
